Methods Machine Tools’ will introduce the FANUC RoboCut α-CiA series wire EDMs, including the C400iA and C600iA . With seven-axis, simultaneous machining available as an option, these machines are designed for machining complex components in materials including cobalt-chrome, high-nickel alloys, titanium and other materials common to the aerospace, medical and defense industry.
Upgrades include the new FANUC 31iWB control with 15.1" LCD touchscreen. This CNC offers new features for improved accuracy and surface finish, especially in high-taper, four-axis cutting, the company says. It adds that Ai Pulse Control II offers improved straightness and faster cutting speeds for both roughing and finishing in interrupted cuts. The automatic wire threader is also said to be more reliable, including when threading soft wire while submerged and in the cutting gap.
Various control enhancements monitor electrical component usage to minimize power consumption. The new “Eco Mode” feature is designed to reduce wire consumption by as much as 30 percent. Likewise, the PCD power supply has been upgraded to improve burning efficiency in difficult-to-cut materials such as CBN and some carbon fibers. Also, cutting technology is available for machining complex, detailed graphite electrodes ranging to 6 inches thick with fine finish, the company says.
Upgrades to the RoboCut Link I cut monitor software, a standard feature for remote machine monitoring and operation, include a new user-friendly interface for Apple iPads and other mobile devices.
Series models include the 0CiA 10" standard and iMed with XYZ travels of 14.6" × 10.6" × 10" and UV travels of ±2.362"; the 1CiA 12" standard and iMed with XYZ travels of 23.6 " × 15.7" × 12" and UV travels of ±3.937"; and the 1CiA 16" standard with XYZ travels of 23.6 " × 15.7" × 16" and UV travels of ±3.937".
