And one couple has had enough. They went about doing their part to solve the plastics industry's image problem by helping to create an 84,000-square-foot, $80 million Emerging Technologies and Innovation Center (ETIC) at UMass Lowell to help raise awareness and change people's minds about the business of plastics.
The ETIC was named in tribute to distinguished alumnus Mark Saab ’81 and his wife Elisia: Mark and Elisia Saab Emerging Technologies and Innovation Center.
This new R&D facility offers "specialized and world-class laboratories and equipment, providing a range of opportunities for corporate- and government-sponsored research. The ETIC houses cutting-edge programs in nanomedicine, nanomanufacturing, plastics and elastomers, clean-room technologies, biomaterials develoment and more. These are fast-developing fields with growing career prospects and promising industry partnership opportunities."
