Modern Machine Shop covers sophisticated manufacturing technology, yet I admit to feeling admiration when I see shops finding cheap and simple ways to solve manufacturing problems. Here is an example: Hogge Precision Parts was damaging workpieces as they dropped from the machine during a lights-out machining process. Other unattended machines in the shop do rely on workhandling accessories that safeguard the parts, but equipment such as this wasn’t needed in this case. Instead, the parts drop onto soft pieces of wood that are floating in water.
