This year, the Internet continues to play an important role with shops, plants and manufacturers of all sizes.
And nearly halfway into 2002, two noteworthy events are available to help you recognize which of the many communications and applications strengths of the Internet are right for your own business:
It's MOTI Time!
May 2002 marks the second annual Metalworking On The Internet (MOTI) from Modern Machine Shop. This special supplement is available in a couple different ways; a copy may be bundled in with this May issue of MMS, or you can find it online (mmsonline.com/issues/moi02.html).
The 2002 MOTI offers a review of unique Internet attributes and how they may apply to shops and plants of all sizes. Topics include marketing of shop services, training, machine tool connectivity to the Internet, and much more. The MOTI also includes handy reference listings of metalworking suppliers' Web sites, as well as many broader interest sites found on MMS Online.
Whether you're an old hand at leveraging the Internet to your shop's advantage or if you're picking your spots, check out MMS' 2002 MOTI for some information and inspiration.
It's (Almost) IMTS Time!
September is just around the corner. Right about this time of year, every other year for as long as most of us can remember, most machining and manufacturing professionals' hearts start speeding up in anticipation. That's because IMTS isn't too far off.
And now there's something else to look forward to in even years—the 2002 IMTS Web site (www.imtsnet.org) is ready. IMTSNet covers all your bases before, during and after IMTS 2002. Everything from comprehensive exhibitor and product listings to hotels and "Chicagoland" info is there. You can even organize your IMTS experience with the "myIMTS Planner" utility.
Look for updates regularly.
Job Shop Site Of The Month
Take a look at TomKen Tool & Engineering of Muncie, Indiana (www.tomkentool.com). TomKen's site shows off excellent navigation sensibilities, especially in the areas resenting its capabilities and product line promotion. Select any link from TomKen's home page, and you'll see a subset of links within the selected category, making it very easy to recognize where in the site you are. Also noteworthy is TomKen's segregating its equipment lists by disciplines. To have your site considered for Job Shop Site Of The Month, send your URL to firstname.lastname@example.org.
