Hi Folks, I'm new to this forum. I have a production job that involves putting two countersunk holes in a small disk of 304 (Annealed) S.S. The hole dia. is 0.125" and the countersink is 0.244" dia. @ 82 Degs. The material is just a little bit too thick for a common spot drill drill to drill through. We have had several tools custom ground so that we can acheive the needed depth. We have tried carbide, cobalt & H.S.S. tools, We are using the feeds and speeds sugested by the tooling manufactures, but none of the tools are lasting more than a few parts before they chip, or burn up. Any help, or suggestions, would be appreciated. Thanks.

To much RPM, slow it down. Use single flute solid carbide co-sink.

not sure if this is helpful but what is the thickness of the material and what is the speed and feed you are using?
stainless steels present interesting and challenging operations...
