Automotive supplier Linear Mold & Engineering, a leader in the design and manufacture of fast-cycling injection molds with conformal cooling technology using Direct Metal Laser Sintering (DMLS), announced the company has received its TS 16949 certification. The TS certification is in addition to the company’s ISO 9001, AS9100 aerospace supplier, and UL certifications.
John Tenbusch, President and CEO of Linear, comments, “We’re proud to be a full-service supplier to the automotive industry, and receiving our TS 16949 certification shows our continued commitment to our customers to provide the highest quality molds, including prototype and bridge tooling, molded parts and 3D printed components to meet their requirements for excellence.”
Dave Palmer, Quality Assurance Manager for Linear, worked for almost six months to prepare the company to receive its TS certification. “It is difficult to get TS certified – more so than AS or ISO because there are additional stringent procedures and policies that need to be put in place,” said Palmer. “However, for Linear it wasn’t as difficult or lengthy of a process because we have so many of our quality procedures and policies established due to our ISO and AS certifications. We just had to improve upon and expand some of the quality procedures we already have in place.”
Linear, which also serves the aerospace industry, received its AS9100 certification this past summer.
Becoming TS certified shows Linear’s commitment to the automotive industry for their suppliers and the company’s goal to meet the high standards of excellence that automotive OEMs and Tier One suppliers demand of their suppliers. “Some won’t even allow you to ship to them without being TS certified,” Palmer noted. “It opens a lot of doors for us as a supplier, giving us more opportunities to quote and land new business. The TS certification is a ‘box’ the OEMs and Tier 1 companies check over and above the ISO certification when they release work to their suppliers.”
