The student taking the gold medal in the Skills Canada national championship used GibbsCAM CNC programming software, according to Gibbs and Associates. The Skills program (Skills Canada and SkillsUSA) promotes and encourages youth education and training in the skilled trades and technologies. The annual competitions provide the opportunity for students to compete in their chosen fields, both locally, nationally, and even worldwide.
At the Skills Canada 2013 event, held in Vancouver in June 2013, Collin MacDougall, a student from Red River College in Manitoba, competed on the national level and took the gold in the CNC programming competition, using GibbsCAM software.
“Competitors were required to complete a project on both the machining center and turning center over the 2 days of competition. Collin was the only competitor to use GibbsCAM to produce his programs. Collin came out on top against competition from all over Canada. He also represented himself, Red River College, and Manitoba admirably,” explains Warren Palmer, manufacturing instructor at RRC.
