GKN Aerospace has extended its El Cajon, California, turbine fan blade repair shop by forming the Centre of Excellence, which will cater to the repair of GE Aviation’s CF6 high-bypass turbofan engine. The aftermarket and licensing agreements between the two companies cover all fan blade repairs for the entire suite of CF6 engines, which are used on 13 aircraft types including the DC10, the MD11, Boeing 747 and 767, and Airbus A300, A310 and A330. According to GKN, the El Cajon repair shop to which the Centre of Excellence is attached is the world’s largest fan blade shop, repairing over 65,000 blades annually and supporting more than 180 airlines and jet engine overhaul shops.
