Rather than requiring customers to visit its showroom, Haimer USA (Villa Park, Illinois) is using a new demonstration vehicle to bring its showroom to its customers. Mounted on the chassis of the GMC Top Kick C4500 diesel is a 6-by-10-foot traveling showcase that features the company’s latest shrink-fit toolholders, tool-balancing machines and other products. According to the company, conservative estimates show that 30 to 35 percent of potential customers who see a demonstration on the truck actually make purchases.
Bringing products to customer locations provides a hands-on introduction to the entire spectrum of the company’s equipment, with potential users testing shrink-fit and balancing machines on their own tools. The vehicle is especially useful as a follow-up for trade show activities because attendees are often too busy to focus too much on one exhibitor during shows, says Dan Sanchez, product manager. “It’s very difficult to express to the customers how easy our machines are to use just by showing them a catalog,” he explains.
The new truck debuted last May and replaced an older model shipped several years ago by Haimer USA’s parent company, German manufacturer Haimer GmbH. It features a larger, domestically manufactured chassis that accommodates the company’s newer products. The truck will make its way up the East Coast in time to follow up on the Eastec show in May before moving on to Canada and the Midwest.
