Makino announces Automotive Technology Days, a two-day event at the company’s Auburn Hills, Michigan technology center scheduled for January 15 and 16 to coincide with the North American International Auto Show. Attendees can expect a full line-up of cutting demonstrations and technical presentations as well as round-tip transportation to and from the Auto Show Industry Preview Day at the Cobo Center on Jan. 15.
Featured guest speaker for the event is Brett C. Smith, co-director of the Manufacturing, Engineering and Technology Group at the Center for Automotive Research (CAR). During a private dinner at the Cobo Center, Smith plans to discuss the trends he has observed through his research on advanced powertrain technology, manufacturing forecasting, product analysis, supplier/OEM strategies and workforce skill requirements.
Meanwhile, Automotive Technology Days will feature one-on-one consultations with Makino engineers as well as presentations focused on automation solutions, equipment ROI, automated material handling systems and the company’s newest horizontal machining center. Among other demonstrations, attendees can view an a61nx HMC cutting a fluid cylinder block with tools typically reserved for larger, 50-taper machines; an automated cell consisting of a PS65 VMC and a51nx VMC that processes a V-twin-style cylinder block in three operations; an MMC2 with MAS-A5 cell controller that will demonstrate how to virtually eliminate setup and changeover times on the fly while managing production schedules, cost and throughput; an example of production monitoring and other functionality of the MPmax software; and a PS95 VMC cutting a C2 cast iron fluid block in less than 14 minutes.
