The GMS-2600 ST multitasking turning center is now available from Yama Seiki. This hybrid machine includes X, Y, Z and C axes with a live tooling turret, high-speed spindle, automatic toolchanger (ATC) system and B axis. The GMS-2600 ST combines a turning center and machining center into one machine to perform complex free-shape machining, tapping, milling, drilling, incline machining, contour machining and turning to save floor space and eliminate secondary operations requiring multiple machines. The double turret and double spindle enable machining on two spindles at the same time.

With a loading/unloading system, the machine becomes a highly efficient automated turning center, according to the company.  From workpiece transfer to parts finishing, machining can be completed in a single setup to save on labor and cycle time while also increasing accuracy, the company says.

The high-performance main and subspindle module are equipped with cylindrical roller bearings. The main spindle is installed with a built-in spindle motor to eliminate power loss and belt slipping problems.  The high-resolution magnetic encoder on the C axis enables high-precision contour machining.

The X and Y axes incorporate a highly rigid, extra-wide boxway design to provide a solid foundation for heavy-duty cutting. The Z2 and Zs axes are built with high-speed, high-precision linear guideways to increase workpiece accuracy and maintain cutting rigidity. The machine accommodates larger workpieces ranging to 300 × 500 × 600 mm in the X-, Y- and Z-axis spans, respectively.
