Manufacturing Day 2013 will aim to bolster the image of manufacturing in America and draw attention to the career opportunities it offers. The event is scheduled for Friday, October 4, and will be co-produced by industry organizations including the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM), The Manufacturing Institute and the U.S. Commerce Department’s Hollings Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP). Manufacturers are encouraged to sign up to host open house events for members of the general public. According to organizers, benefits include telling their companies’ stories, dispelling myths about manufacturing, inspiring new generations of manufacturers, connecting with potential customers in the local area, and more.

Ed Youdell, the president and CEO of the Rockford, Illinois-based Fabricators & Manufacturers Association International (FMA), was a key player in creating the event and bringing various organizations together. Mr. Youdell was recently awarded the CMA Leadership Award from NAM’s Council of Manufacturing Association for his efforts. The award is annually presented to the association officer who has done the most to further the CMA’s mission, as determined by the Chairman of the Council.
