The National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS) has announced the appointment of James A. Wall as executive director. Mr. Wall will succeed Stephen C. Mandes, who served in that position since 1999. As executive director, Mr. Wall will focus on improving and expanding NIMS’ mission to develop and maintain a globally competitive American workforce. “Precision manufacturing is fundamental to the success of our economy" Mr. Wall says. “I am committed to developing expanded partnerships with industry, secondary and postsecondary educational institutions, and apprenticeship programs to build the 21st century workforce required for sustained economic development.”
 
Mr. Wall has been Deputy Director of NIMS since 2002 and has been responsible for the continued development and maintenance of NIMS standards, performance requirements and theory exams. Prior to joining NIMS, Mr. Wall directed the statewide metalworking program at The Pennsylvania State University. He also has taught at both secondary and postsecondary levels and served as a school administrator in technical education.
