United Technologies Corp. (UTC) has made a licensing agreement with CNC simulation software developer CGTech intended to help improve productivity for machining equipment operators. The agreement enables CGTech to integrate UTC’s PromptFM machining process optimization technology within the company’s Vericut cutting process simulation software.

The licensing agreement will enable the development of a software product that is capable of reducing development time, cycle times and process variation as well as extending machine life and improving part quality.

PromptFM is a physics- and mathematics-based modeling software designed to optimize machining rates for machined parts for the aerospace, automotive, industrial and other markets using automated machining. The software was created specifically for compatibility with Vericut.

“UTC has demonstrated the value of this optimization technology within its own operations, and we are excited to bring additional capabilities to what is already the industry standard for CNC machining simulation,” says Jon Prun, president of CGTech.

Kelly Romano, UTC vice president of business development, says that widespread adoption of this software technology has the potential of driving efficiency throughout the machining industry
