The committee intends to develop a network of female colleagues in the titanium industry as well as encourage young women in high school and college to consider careers in titanium.

Women in Titanium (WiT), a committee sponsored by the International Titanium Association (ITA), will hold its first conference October 4, 2015, at the Rosen Shingle Creek Golf Resort in Orlando, Florida, just prior to the start of the ITA’s annual Titanium USA conference and expo.

As spelled out in its charter approved earlier in 2015, the primary mission of the WiT committee is twofold: first, to develop a networking group of collegial women presently in the titanium industry; and second, to promote, attract and encourage female high school and college students to enter the industry. The committee is part of the ITA’s efforts to cultivate the next generation of titanium designers, engineers, metallurgists and executives.

“I began attending the Titanium USA conferences three years ago,” says Jill McGibbney, a member of the WiT executive committee, adding that she remembers being surprised at the unbalanced men-to-women ratio in one of the larger sessions. She goes on to say, “I believe the Women in Titanium conference can help encourage and justify other women to attend the main conference and become more involved.”
