CAM Technology Shortens Cycle Times

CNC Software will introduce Mastercam X8, featuring updated workflow capabilities and the company's Dynamic Motion technology, which the company reports can reduce machining time by as much as 75 percent. Compatible with a variety of machines, Dynamic Motion creates tool paths able to extend tool life, reduce cycle time, save wear and tear and ease the cutting of hard materials.
Mastercam X8 also includes a Solids Workflow feature developed to ease constructing and editing solids. Incorporating the existing Solids function, the interface enables work on the interface or onscreen as needed, and a live preview shows results of changes during work. Solid Direct Editing has also been expanded to ease model preparation.
All 2D HST tool paths now support multi-core processing. Air Region chaining defines an open side of a closed region where tools can safely enter for machining, and 3D HST finishing tool paths have five-axis motion for automatic collision avoidance. The software supports stock models in Lathe tool paths, and Mill-Turn now supports Mill Level 1 for twin-turret machines that require no surface machining, along with Drag and Drop for placing tools on locators loaded on turrets.
The software also features usability updates, including customizability that enables the user to automatically hide panels, such as the Tool Paths or Solids Manager, to show more of the graphics screen. Panels can dock to either side of the window or be undocked and placed outside the window, useful for second monitors. The colorblind-friendly color palette includes over 750 icons for consistency and ease of use.
