CMM Combines Speed, Accuracy for High Performance

The Strato-Apex CMM from Mitutoyo combines an advanced structure with high-performance control and scanning technologies for faster drive speeds and higher acceleration. The rigid CMM structure incorporates vibration-damping, auto-leveling air springs and compensation technology to support acceleration of 2,598 mm/s2 (3D), 0.23g (3D) and measuring scan speeds up to 3 mm/s2
 
The CMM features digital servo system control loops for position, speed and current. This eases implementation of various types of control algorithms, the company says. Additionally, the digital servo system has a wide dynamic range and is resistant to drift over time. The controller is located outside the main unit to mitigate the effect of generated heat. 
 

The accuracy measurement units installed on each axis of the CMM consist of reflective linear encoders that utilize precision-crystallized glass scales that exhibit virtually no thermal expansion (coefficient of linear expansion of 0.01 × 10-5/°C), the company says.
