The Darex XPS-16+ CNC drill sharpener is capable of sharpening two-fluted HSS, cobalt, carbide and coated bits. Offering four axes, the machine can sharpen common, split-point geometries and four-facet point drills. It also automatically hones carbide drills for greater cutting accuracy, the company says. The sharpener’s drill diameter ranges from 3 to 16 mm, while the unit creates any point angle from 90 to 150 degrees. In addition, the start of the grind position is incremented to ensure efficient use of the abrasive for longer wheel life. A CNC control enables the user to customize point styles and save as many as 100 geometries for future use. The upgraded model also supports split-only operations, enabling the operator choose between no-split, X-split and R-split options.
