FANUC Factory Automation’s (FANUC FA America) iLimitS CNC software option provides real-time, machine process monitoring of spindle load, spindle speed and as many as four coolant-flow devices. The software also protects the machine, parts and fixtures. A warning display or alarm can signal the detection of an abnormal process before damaging the machine, the company says.
Parameters for warnings and alarm thresholds provide a time delay before alarm and tolerances can be set. The software samples the process at a rate of <48ms, which enhances resolution and reaction time for abnormal process detection, the company says. The sampled data is compared to the user-defined threshold settings. When a violation is detected, the FANUC machine interface (PMC) is signaled to stop the machining process.
If an alarm sounds, the operator must clear the condition before machining can resume. Also, a macro interrupt mode executes a customer-designated macro in the event of a monitoring alarm condition. This enables the customer to take corrective actions programmatically, or even send a text report of the condition for traceability.
Parameter settings and macro calls within the part program activate the software and enable operator and programmer flexibility, the company says. The software is embedded into the CNC itself, so no external sensors are required when using a FANUC serial spindle interface. External sensors can be added as needed for analog spindles and coolant monitoring.
The software supports applications ranging from spindle load monitoring to extensive process control and traceability. According to the company, the intuitive user interface screens are integrated seamlessly into the CNC and provide access to all setup and monitoring information.
