The FastGrind CNC tool and cutter grinder provides quality and reliability at an economical cost, the manufacturer says. The machine can resharpen drills, step drills, end mills, profile cutters, routers and other tools ranging to 9.4" in diameter. It offers positioning in five mechanical axes, including three ballscrew-driven linear axes and two direct-drive rotary axes, as well as four software axes. To improve rigidity and reduce vibration, the spindle mount and all axis saddles are constructed from single-piece castings. The double-ended, HSK 40 wheel spindle can accommodate wheels with diameters ranging to 8".
Users can opt to include the company’s iView tool inspection software package along with the machine’s standard part probing system. Working with the machine’s operating software, the iView package includes a camera that mounts inside the work envelope.
The software generates the ideal shape for a tool’s geometry and projects it over the actual tool image with 2-micron accuracy. Although standard magnification is 300:1, other magnifications are also available.
Other available options include a fire suppression system, a manual steady and a manual, hydraulic chuck from Schunk.
When Grinding Is Like Turning
This shop leverages a high-speed peel-grinding process that resembles turning to effectively grind challenging materials such as carbide. Inherently low grinding forces mean high material-removal rates are possible.
