The Studer S41 CNC universal cylindrical grinder from United Grinding Technologies is equipped with a rigid and thermally stable Granitan S103 machine bed capable of equalizing brief variations in temperature. The guideways of the longitudinal slide and cross-slide are molded directly into the machine bed, and are moved by linear direct drive up to 66 fpm. The StuderGuide guideway system ensures high precision, and the company guarantees a straightness of <0.0001" over a measured length of 37.4000".
The machine’s longitudinal slide (Z axis) has a ground work table which carries the workhead and tailstock. A ground T-slot over the entire length of the guideway enables optimal positioning of dressing tools. The cross-slide (X axis) supports the wheelhead. The swivel movement of the turret wheelhead (B axis) is by a direct drive with a positioning resolution of 0.00005 degree.
The standard height of centers is 8.9" and the maximum distance between centers is 39.4". However, options for center heights up to 10.8" and distances up to 63" are also available. These heights and distances combined with the machine’s hydraulically clamped tailstock enable the machining of workpieces weighing up to 551 lbs.
The machine is equipped with up to four external grinding wheels driven by motor spindles, or three internal grinding spindles, enabling over 30 grinding head combinations. Internal grinding spindles with speeds from 6,000 to 120,000 rpm can be used.
The Fanuc 31i-A machine control with integrated PC and 15" touchscreen operates with the StuderGrind software and StuderWin operator interface. An additional manual control unit facilitates setup of the grinding processes. A free-standing operating panel with adjustable height is also available.
