Methods Machine Tools Inc. offers the VisionGauge digital optical comparator 700 Series developed by Visionx Inc, which performs five-axis inspection to efficiently view parts from various sides and angles.
The comparators are suited for automatic inspection of parts with complex geometries found in aerospace and other industries. Powerful adaptive software locates features of interest on different surfaces with varying reflectivity and viewing angles. According to the company, the devices are very useful in checking EDM or laser-drilled holes found in power-generation turbine components. Additionally, the comparator automatically verifies precise hole presence and hole location for both round and shaped holes.
Featuring fully-automated operation to remove operator-to-operator variation, the comparators are fast, accurate and easy-to-use, the company says. An auto-align tool automatically aligns CAD data to the part in less than two sec., producing repeatable and accurate operator-independent results. An auto pass/fail tool determines if a part is within tolerance and can be point-based or can consider complete geometric entities. It can also perform both simultaneously on the same part.
The comparators work directly with the part's CAD data and do not require any overlays, Mylars or templates. Systems are Windows-based and delivered network-ready in a convenient, shop-floor cart configuration. Additionally, the comparators can be set up to automatically collect complete electronic documentation and device history for SPC and quality compliance purposes.
The 700 Series is available in a high resolution, 20× magnification and features a 38" diagonal image viewing area. Travels of 12" are standard on the X, Y and Z axes. All-LED illumination offers stable, repeatable multi-angle and multi-quadrant illumination conditions via a programmable, computer-controlled system.
