Originally titled 'Painting System Cuts Energy Use in Auto Plant'
The RoDip M rotational dip coating system from Dürr Systems GmbH is designed to reduce bath volume, therefore using less energy and chemicals. Use of the system in pretreatment and electrocoating is being expanded at the BMW Brilliance automotive plant in Shenyang, China, to increase production capacity. According to Dürr, this expansion will decrease already-low energy consumption to a value of less than 500 kWh per vehicle.
Spray booths at the plant also are equipped with Dürr’s EcoDryScrubber, a dry separation system for overspray that requires no water or chemicals, and recirculates the process air for additional energy savings. Paint is applied using 32 Dürr EcoRP E033 and EcoRP L133 painting robots equipped with EcoBell3 atomizers that enable painting both the exterior and the interior with a single rotating atomizer.
