Available from Andantex USA, the Redex MSR TwinDrive is designed to be a turnkey, self-contained sub-assembly that simplifies the mechanical transmission system for turning tables on larger vertical lathes. The drive system is composed of a two-speed gearbox combined with a cubic R Series right-angle bevel gearbox, which offers a compact speed changer and a new lubrication arrangement. The two gearboxes share the driving torque, while a CNC system manages the motor preload torque, eliminating backlash, the company says. Accurate positioning capabilities enable the execution of additional functions on the C axes without additional mechanical devices. MSR kinematics enable the drive to be placed right under the chuck, directly meshing with the crown.

The drives are available in four sizes with torque capacity at pinion ranging from 2,000/4,000 Nm with two 40-kW motors to 9,000/18,000 rpm with two 100-kW motors. Combined with a pinion-ring ratio of about 10:15, the system offers turntable torque ranging from 200,000 to 270,000 Nm.
