Available from Absolute Machine Tools, the Tongtai TMT-2000 is an eight-axis, two-turret, two-spindle turn-mill cast from Meehanite iron. The machine is designed with a 75-degree, mono-block slant bed for rigidity, chip flow and operator ergonomics. The perpendicular Y axis is said to simplify programming, while high-power, synchronized spindles provide fast acceleration and deceleration times. Rapid traverse rates are 1,181 ipm in the X axis, 590 ipm in the Y axis and 1,417 ipm in the Z axis.
 
The machine features two servo-driven live turrets with a BMT-65 tool system and a Y axis on the upper turret. Maximum turning diameter is 12.6" and maximum swing is 28.3". According to the company, the machine’s rigidity enables users to take full advantage of the main spindle’s 20-hp, high-torque motor and synchronous, 25-hp, oil-cooled subspindle. The 4,500-rpm main spindle has a 2.5" bar capacity, while the 6,000-rpm subspindle has a 2" bar capacity. Both feature a full contouring C-axis directed by the Fanuc 31iT-B control. 
 

A frame design that enables the X and Z axes to be perpendicular to each other is said to improve accuracy and simplify programming. Likewise, the machine’s headstock, subspindle and saddles are mounted in the same plane to ensure precision and thermal stability. Its double-nut ballscrews are pre-tensioned to eliminate thermal growth.
