Offered by Giddings & Lewis, the FT and FTR series are equipped with live spindles for drilling and tapping, as well as boring operations. For each of the floor-type models, two- and four-speed spindle power train options, with spindle diameters of 5" to 7" (130 mm to 180 mm), are available. Depending upon the spindle selection, speeds of 60 hp to 100 hp can be achieved, with Z axis travel of 31.5" to 49.2" (800 mm to 1250 mm).

Featuring cross-ribbed columns and steel runways, the machines are said to resist deflection while minimizing vibration. Also included are linear scales and preloaded axis drives that provide bidirectional positioning accuracy of 0.0006" (0.015 mm) and bidirectional repeatability of 0.0003" (0.008 mm).

In addition to X axis travels of 13' to 53', the boring mills offer 787 ipm rapid traverse rates and Y axis vertical headstock travel starting at 6.6', with optional travel to 16.4'. A range of control options, including the Siemens Sinumerik, the Fanuc 31i and the Heidenhain iTNC 530, are available.
