Indexing Technologies’ CTM toolchanger consists of a dual-motion, CAM-operated exchanger designed to perform mechanically synchronized, high-speed movements for grasping, extracting, exchanging and inserting tools simultaneously between the spindle and the magazine. The system also enables the release of the tool grippers. The toolchanger is well-suited for applications on NC milling machines, vertical and horizontal machining centers, CNC lathes, transfer machines, and laser and plasma cutting machines. It is also suitable for wood and granite routing machines and machines designed specifically for cutting extruded aluminum. The toolchanger is available in four standard frame sizes and accommodates most types of toolholders.
The toolchanger’s high-speed cycle is operated by a three-phase, self-braking motor and a mechanical exchange arm with dual, rapid-release gripper hands with built-in safety interlocks. Exchange times range from 0.6 to 5 sec., depending on the frame size of the unit, tool weights and length of the exchange arm. An optional servomotor drive is available on some models.
The drum-style magazine’s hinged toolholder pockets provide a 90-degree, pneumatically-operated tilt during tool exchange. A built-in switch system designed for precise toolholder identification is used to manage migrating tools, and a toolholder-to-tool pocket identification management system is also available upon request.
