Designed for holemaking applications, Kennametal’s Beyond insert line includes three new grades,KCPK10, KCU25 and KCU40. The product portfolio covers SPPX/SPGX Drill Fix Square (DFS) outboard inserts, available in HP, FP and MD geometries. Together with the DFS drill bodies, diameters range from 1.00" to 2.125" (24.0 to 55.0 mm).
The DFS indexable drill platform combines the economy of a square insert, which has four edges in the outside pocket, with the centering and high feed ability of a DFT trigon insert. The DFS indexable drill can be used in virtually any short-hole application, the company says.
Achieving a higher material removal rate (MRR) at the same tool life as standard inserts, the KCPK10 grade resists abrasion and crater wear during high speed machining of steels and cast irons, the company says.
The KCU25 is designed for reliable cutting of steels, stainless steels and cast irons at high speeds and feeds, the company says.
With a multi-layered PVD TiN-TiAlN coating and a tough substrate, the KCU40 grade withstands interruptions and provides high wear resistance, the company says. This results in increased tool life at equivalent material removal rates compared to standard inserts.
