Sunnen Products says its SV-560 vertical CNC honing system features an electromechanical design to deliver servo-accurate performance that remains consistent over time. The machine is suitable for low- to mid-volume machining of oil and gas industry components, such as gas compressors, liner hangers, telemetry units, valves and pump liners.
Equipped with a precise linear tool feed, the machine is designed to automatically correct bore geometry and size while producing a user-specified crosshatch angle and surface finish. The machine combines a 60" stroke and 20 hp spindle for bores 12" in diameter or larger. Standard spindle speed is 0-300 rpm, with options of 0 - 600 and 0 - 1,200 rpm, and a maximum stroke rate of 90 ft./min.
The machine measures 87" × 81" × 89.5" without the coolant tank. It is equipped with a cast iron base to provide vibration dampening, and stainless steel guarding. Setup can be handled from the front of the machine without raising a cover. An intuitive interface and Windows-based PC control simplifies the honing process, the company says.
The machine comes standard with a malleable iron T-slot base just above floor level. It can also be configured with various workholding and table options at waist height. The machine’s open base allows easy pass-through of large parts and makes it adaptable for parallel manufacturing in a lean environment. The machine can be equipped for in-process air gaging with Sunnen's PH hone head or for post-process air gaging.
