The latest addition to Wilcox Associates’ Enterprise Metrology Solutions (EMS) family of metrology products, PC-DMIS NCi (Numerical Control Interactive) is an adaptation of the PC-DMIS CMM measurement package. The in-process metrology software provides spindle probe users with real-time feedback based on measurements taken at the machine tool while parts are produced.
The application sets up a bi-directional link with the machine tool’s controller. With this link, users can take advantage of PC-DMIS tools for interactive alignments and relative measurements. In addition, X, Y, Z and rotational work offsets as well as probe offsets can be updated based on the evaluation of measurement data. The software also allows the writing and reading of data to and from the controller.
Users can develop inspection routines directly from CAD models using point-and-click programming techniques. According to the company, this CAD integration simplifies the creation of inspection programs. The software uses data captured from on-machine measurements to compare actual results to the CAD model. This enables first-time analysis of critical features while the part is being manufactured, which can eliminate sources of uncertainty from the manufacturing process, the company says.
Programmers have full access to PC-DMIS reporting and evaluation tools. The software also includes the company’s Data Page/RealTime SPC application, which allows for continual analysis of machine tool performance. The software is available for various machine tools equipped with either Siemens or Fanuc controllers.
