Developed from the VM 300 machine, the VM 360 is designed for precision internal and external grinding of large workpieces without retooling. According to the company, the grinder provides an alternative for the use of two separate machines for applications in the aerospace and spindle industries, among others.
 
The machine operates with seven CNC axes, which can be optionally supplemented with five additional axes. In a single pass, the machine can grind workpieces as heavy as 1,300 lbs with lengths ranging to 52” and diameters ranging to 32”. Turret-mounted grinding spindles for external work are said to be stable and rigid and carry two wheels, each with diameters of 16” or 20”. This enables users to employ the machine as full-fledged OD grinder. For ID grinding, four separate high speed spindles mounted on a second indexing turret accommodate grinding wheels or rods. Other features include freely configurable dressing units that automatically dress OD and ID wheels via programmable cycles; a vibration-damped, thermally stable machine base; and precision slide guides.
