State and national laws are being changed to restrict lead content in plumbing fittings that come in contact with drinking water. The lead-free brass alloy, C693 Eco Brass, is designed to provide a solution to these changing requirements. This material has machinability higher than 80 percent of C36000 and forgeability rated at 95 percent of C37700. According to the company, both characteristics are considered excellent by industry standards. In casting, Eco Brass C87850, with the same composition as the rod, has high fluidity, low drossing and a low melting temperature compared with red brasses.

Whether a machined rod part, forging or casting, this alloy provides resistance to dezincification, stress corrosion cracking and wear. C693 rod has the strength of 303 and 304 stainless steel, and also maintains 100-percent strength at temperatures as high as 350°F. All product forms can be soldered and brazed using standard materials.
