The Kawata Touchdex indexer from Tecnara is a fully mechanical unit. It indexes automatically and is synchronized with the NC program. The indexer does not need power cables or digital interface. Because it is not motorized, it requires only minimum space and can be quickly installed at almost any location. It is lightweight, easy to handle, and capable of tackling heavy milling, end milling, drilling and tapping jobs, the company says.
The Kawata Touchdex uses a locking pin that automatically fixes the workpiece with a clamping force two to three times greater than an ordinary friction brake. Indexing accuracy is less than 30 sec. (cumulative) and repeat accuracy is ±3 sec. The company’s Touchdex clamping system is said to ensure zero backlash for the life of the unit. By aligning two or more units, multiple workpieces can be machined simultaneously.
A variety of models are available, including: the FDR model for clockwise and counter-clockwise operation; the FDM model for vertical or horizontal installation; a minimum indexing angle model with options for one or five degrees; a maximum indexing angle model with options for 15, 45 or 90 degrees; a tilting model for five-face machining on VMCs; and the Vicedex model for three-face machining in a single operation.
