ABB Robotics has developed a low-weight, medium-size robot for general industrial operations in the North American market. According to the company, the IRB 4600 features a larger working range, lower weight and a better cycle time than its predecessor, the ABB IRB 4400. The new model has a maximum reach as long as 4.6 m, features smaller wrists and weighs just over 880 lbs (400 kg). It can be floor- or shelf-mounted, tilted and inverted. The small-footprint robot can be placed closed to the served machines, and its semi-shelf capability enables it to be placed on top of machines.
Designed to withstand harsh environments, the robot is suitable for manufacturing and material handling applications including machine tending, arc welding, cutting, dispensing, assembly, palletizing and packing, measuring, deburring and polishing.
Four versions are available: two short-arm versions (2.05 m) for 60- or 45-kg payload, and two long-arm versions (2.50 and 2.55 m) for 40- or 20-kg payload. A Foundry Plus model is also available. All models are protected according to the IP 67 standard.
Software Centralizes Robotic Cell Control
Rethink Robotics offers Intera 5, a software platform that connects an entire robot cell from a single robot controller to simplify automation and ease deployment.
