Geometric Limited has released DFMPro for Pro/Engineer. The design for manufacturability (DFM) product is integrated within the Pro/Engineer design environment and provides a series of automated checks and analysis to assist designers in creating cost-effective designs, the company says.
The software is designed to facilitate upstream manufacturability validation and identify areas of design that are difficult and expensive to manufacture. The DFM tool is said to be engineered for quick and in-depth examination of product manufacturability. It includes advanced design rules for manufacturing processes such as milling, drilling, turning and sheet metal fabrication.
According to the company, benefits include the early prediction and prevention of production problems and manufacturing inefficiencies; reduction of lead-time by reducing backtracking and design iterations; and a scalable framework for manufacturability knowledge capture and reuse.
This version delivers integration in a simple, intuitive interface and features more than 30 built-in DFM rules, the company says. Users can customize the DFM rules using Visual Studio Tools for Applications.
