An extension of PC-DMIS CMM, PC-DMIS Portable is the latest software release for measurement and inspection applications that use Romer portable arms. Developed by Hexagon Metrology companies Wilcox and Romer, the software has functionality for mobile data acquisition and analysis of parts and assemblies on the shop floor. The software is useful for aerospace, automotive, heavy machinery and general engineering applications.
The Quick Start user interface provides immediate access to the most frequently used capabilities of portable CMMs without swamping users with details, the company says. It features an OCAD++ configuration with algorithms for best-fit and iterative alignments. With support for virtually all CAD systems and data-file translators, the program features direct-CAD interfaces to enable importation of CAD files without data loss.
Operators can probe parts in any order without having to follow the steps of an inspection program. The software keeps track of measured objects and entities, and it evaluates dimensions only when all necessary information is available. Operators can use portable arms as mouse-type pointing devices to choose menu items and select geometry, and they can use the built-in keypad to enter geometry without leaving the machine. For fast measuring and reduced user interaction, the program’s guess mode allows on-the-fly classification of entity types during data acquisition.
Commutator Gage Dynamically Measures Shaft Parts
Mahr Federal developed its RPM gage for the dynamic measurement of cylindrical parts such as commutator shafts, turbocharger turbine shafts and other precision shafts in electric motors.
