Designed with builder WFL Millturn Technologies’ modular machine concept, the 78-hp M80 Millturn/3000mm can be assembled from the standard toolkit to suit virtually any customer requirement. According to the company, this approach enables users to combine a wide range of machining systems on the upper and lower slides and incorporate all internal machining solutions available from WFL. All center-to-center distances except 39” are also available in a double-spindle version. The machine concept is based on minimizing tool and workpiece distances from the slide guideways and ensuring the widest possible distances between guideways for improved rigidity.
At the heart of the machine is a turning-boring-milling unit designed to handle heavy-duty machining applications. According to the company, the design of the bottom guideways eliminates the need for maintenance-prone telescopic covers. The minimum distance between a steady rest slide and tailstock, or between two adjacent steady rest slides, is 2" to ensure stable clamping conditions. The standard version of the machine offers the steady rest slide and tailstock with their own NC drives, and they can be positioned independently and simultaneously. Users interact with the Siemens Sinumerik 840D Solution Line (SL) CNC, which uses Sinamic drives, via a 19" monitor with adjustable height and tilt angle.
The tool magazine is easily accessible from the front and features a compact, stable design, the company says. The highly dynamic tool shuttle with rack-and-pinion drive carries a toolchanger with all but linear axes to avoid rotation-induced centrifugal effects. The machine can change tools ranging to 77 lbs and 35" long. For heavy duty internal machining applications, either a two-station pickup magazine or a 15-station, heavy -duty boring bar changer is available for tools up to 67" and 98", respectively.
