Equipped with the ProtoTrak SMX control, the Trak DPM SX5 bed mill can be operated manually or as a two- or three-axis CNC. The solid ram moves up and down during Z-axis operation to provide mass behind heavy cuts. Available from Southwestern Industries, the machine is available with either a standard mechanical, variable-speed head or an optional electronic head, which offers programmable speeds and tapping ability. Precision-ground ballscrews are installed in the table, saddle and ram.
