GF AgieCharmilles’ operator support system (OSS) automatically configures cutting parameters to optimize machine performance based on specific job requirements. The system is standard on the company’s high speed and high-performance machining centers. OSS provides users with an intuitive interface for entering data that is used to tailor machining processes.

When using the system, operators are asked to rank the relative priority of a job’s accuracy, cutting time and surface quality. Once these are prioritized, OSS adjusts the dynamic behavior of the machine to provide optimum results, the company says. The system offers 12 initial presets with the ability to save additional customized settings.

OSS provides reductions to cycle times and improvements to surface quality. The automated nature of the system is said to eliminate much of the time an operator would traditionally spend maximizing cutting data.
