Doosan’s Puma SMX 3100 S turn-mill multitasking machine integrates the capabilities of a vertical machining center and horizontal turning center into one platform. It contains a 90-degree vertical axis and a forward-positioned automatic tool changer designed to enhance operator ergonomics.
The series is available in two sizes: The Puma SMX2600 features a 10" chuck and 3.1" bar capacity, and the Puma SMX3100 features a 12" chuck with 4" bar capacity. Both models can machine parts as large as 60" long and 26" in diameter. X1-, Z1- and Y-axis travel measures 24.8", 62.4" and 11.8", respectively. The rapid traverse rates of the X1, Z1 and Y axes measure 50, 50 and 36 m/min.
The multitasking functions decrease total processing time and machining operations by using a single setup. The machine is designed for high-speed performance in manufacturing components that require accurate and complex machining capabilities for turning, milling and secondary operations using the SMZ subspindle, which is optional.
The control functions maintain precision during long-term machining processes by minimizing the thermal deformation of the spindle and the feed axis, and by maximizing the precision through the 0.0001-degree B and C axes. An oil cooler also minimizes deformation. Roller-type linear-motion guides on all carriages increase rigidity.
Customized features include a front-located tool magazine with an 80-tool maximum capacity, a side-to-side movable, 85 degree swiveling Fanuc 31i control panel with adjustable height and an ATC operation panel (tool-to-tool change: 1.8 sec.).
IMTS 2016 is right around the corner!
Now is the time to register for IMTS 2016, which runs September 12-17 in Chicago, Illinois. As the show approaches, please check our IMTS 2016 Zone for new product updates.
