DMG MORI’s EcoTurn 450 and EcoTurn 650 turning centers, part of its Ecoline series, feature stable construction to enable accurate machining, even with difficult metal-removing conditions, the company says. The dynamic, high-precision machines feature ballscrew spindles and wide roller guides. Positioning accuracies are said to be at least 0.008 mm (0.0003") and less than 0.006 mm (0.0002") with a direct measuring system. In addition, task-optimized expansion options enable upgrading the machines to turn-mill complete machining.

The EcoTurn 450 model provides spindle speeds ranging to 4,000 rpm, enabling high-precision filigree operations, and its footprint measures 4.9 m2 (52.7 ft.2). An optional rear chip conveyor reduces the front machine width by as much as 35 percent, the company says, so that production floor space can be used flexibly and efficiently. The EcoTurn 650 model provides maximum torque ranging to 2,250 Nm (1,475 foot-pounds) at 230 rpm, even during heavy-duty machining. It offers a footprint of 9.8 m2 (105.5 ft.2). Both models feature an automatic tailstock for more precise machining of long shaft parts.

Both models are equipped with a 12-station turret. The EcoTurn 450 features a VDI40 toolholder, while the EcoTurn 650 features a VDI50 toolholder. The machines can also be equipped with a servo turret featuring 12 driven VDI and six block tool stations to enable complete machining. A true C axis is also available for efficient turn-mill complete machining. Control options include 15" SlimLine with Operate 4.5 on Siemens 840D SolutionLine, 15" SlimLine with Heidenhain CNC Pilot 640 or 0.4" TFT screen with MAPPS IV on Mitsubishi.
