The Matsuura LX-160 available from Methods Machine Tools is a two-pallet, five-axis VMC that features a high spindle speed of 46,000 rpm and X-Y-Z travels of 19.7" × 9.8" × 11.8" (500.38 × 248.92 × 299.72 mm). The rotation center of the tilting B axis is lowered to a position below the pallet surface to reduce each axis movement during simultaneous five-axis machining.
With high-precision linear motor drives on all five axes, the VMC delivers 3,600 ipm rapid traverse rates on the X, Y and Z axes and 100 to 200 rpm on the B and C axes. The system offers a 6.3" × 7.9" (160.01 × 200.66 mm) work envelope in a small footprint. The pallet work surface measures 4.4" (111.76 mm) and offers maximum load capacity of 44 pounds (20 kg). Its ATC is equipped with servo-driven, drum-type tool magazine.
The machine features a Fanuc control and the Matsuura Intelligent Meister System (MIMS), which monitors the overall production process. It comes equipped with CAMplete Truepath software, an integrated suite of G-code editing, optimization, analysis and verification tools, and offers a variety of ATC and APC options.
Three additional models are also available. The LF-160 five-axis and LV-500 three-axis systems both feature highly accurate motors and are designed specifically for applications such as precision molding or optical parts. The LS-160 five-axis model is available with a Siemens control and features a high-speed motor for impeller machining, dental and medical applications.
