The System 8 five-axis milling/turning centers are offered with one (MT) or two (MT-Twin) milling spindles and one or two turning spindles to enable complete machining of semi-finished and saw sections on a single machine. The company has merged its Twin-Technology with its Milling-Turning Technology to create a new platform that includes a multifunctional swiveling and rotating unit with two turning spindles integrated into a column-system machining center with two milling spindles.
System 8 machines feature vertical milling spindles with speeds ranging to 12,000 rpm (80 hp). The two turning spindles with speeds ranging to 4,500 rpm (60 hp) may be used as NC axes and the rotating/swiveling trunnion unit has a continuously variable A-axis pivoting angle of 120 degrees (-30 to +90 degrees). Thus, different configurations can be arranged to enable milling, turning or turn/mill operations. Four machine models with 180 tool positions are available, offering X-, Y- and Z-axis travel ranging to 31.5" × 20.5" × 20" (800 × 520 × 510 mm). A single CNC maintains all machine, spindle and trunnion actions, enabling programming of queued parts, as well.
