Nexen Group’s universal rack model roller pinion system (RPS) is designed to deliver precise linear positioning with zero backlash for high-precision motion control applications. The universal model is well-suited for users that require the advanced features of the RPS system with thrust ratings ranging from 750 to 10,500 N.
Differing from a traditional rack and pinion system, the RPS features a roller pinion/toothed rack combination. The pinion features bearing-supported rollers that engage a unique tooth profile. Each tooth profile is measured to ensure high positional accuracy and eliminate cumulative error, the company says. As a result, the universal rack model delivers positional accuracy to ±50 μm (±0.002"), and a meshing action results in less than 5 μm (0.0002") of backlash.
The universal rack model features a durable alloy steel construction and/or corrosive-resistant stainless steel. Minimum periodic lubrication intervals maximize performance.
The universal rack installs in conjunction with a flange-mount pinion and preloader. Racks are available in standard 1-m and ½-m cut lengths, or they can be custom cut. The RPS models can accommodate a range of application requirements. The universal rack is designed for aerospace, machine tool, automated assembly machine, gantry systems, medical and glass-cutting applications.
