Designed for use in the aerospace industry, Mazak’s Variaxis j-500 5X vertical machining center offers simultaneous five-axis and multitasking capabilities. The machine enables efficient single-machine part processing in titanium, hard metals and aluminum.

The machine’s high-precision rotary/tilt table provides an A-axis tilting rotation of -120 to +30 degrees and a C-axis rotation of ±360 degrees, both in increments as small as 0.0001 degrees. X-, Y- and Z-axis travels measure 13.78" × 21.65" × 20.08", and rapid traverse rates range to 1,181 ipm. The machine’s table measures 19.69" in diameter by 15.75" and accommodates workpieces ranging to 19.69" in diameter and 13.78" in height.

The VMC is equipped with a 12,000-rpm, 15-hp, CAT-40 milling spindle, and a high-speed 18,000-rpm spindle is available as an option. An 18-tool magazine changes tools without having to return its table to the home position, reducing cycle times. An optional two-pallet changer provides simple automation and increased production. The user-friendly Matrix 2 control is designed to optimize five-axis machining and provide fast processing speeds, improved cornering, quality surface finishes and reduced cycle times.
