VMC Series Features Fixed and Roller Guideway Designs

The Vesta VMC series, which includes both boxed and roller guideway models, are designed with high rpm and heavy-torque variations.

New Product Announcements From: 6/9/2010 Modern Machine Shop

The Vesta VMC series, which includes both boxed and roller guideway models, are designed with high rpm and heavy-torque variations. A special way lube and coolant separation system has been designed into the casting structure to prevent contamination.

Programming is standard on the VMCs. The company says its Efficient Contour Control (HECC) is used for, medium and precise cutting operations according to priority of each individual operation.

Tool breakage can be detected at sensitive levels, with the company’s Tool Load Detection (HTLD), which monitors the state of the tool load and tool wear based on set parameters in the machine control.

The feed-rate velocity automatically adjusts with the Optima Tool Load Detection (OPTIMA-HTLD). This increases tool life by monitoring the load generated on the spindle from variations in the cutting cycle.

According to the company, sensors located on the VMC’s spindle and machine frame enable the Spindle Displacement Control (HSDC) to control the spindle temperature through a set of algorithms that will increase or decrease the oil flow temperature of the JET lubrication system built into the spindle coolant jacket.

The VMC 850B model, which features X, Y and Z axes of 34" × 24" ×24", and the VMC 1050B model, which features X, Y and Z axes of 42"× 24" × 24", are 50-taper manufacturing platforms. According to the company, slide surfaces on all axes are designed to help ensure low friction, precise positioning and repeatable accuracy. Standard spindle speeds range to 10,000 rpm (gear driven), enabling 50-taper machining in virtually any type of material. The table load capacity ranges to 2,200 lbs, and a 25-hp main spindle motor provides low-end torque.

The VMC 660 model, which features X, Y and Z axes of 26" × 17" × 16" , and the VMC 1000 model, which features X, Y and Z axes of 40" × 22" × 17", are 40-taper roller guideway VMCs. The direct-drive, 15-hp Fanuc Spindle motor minimizes power loss, decreases vibration and increases cutting efficiency, the company says. All models care equipped with coolant through the spindle.
