Hyundai Wia has released a new series of Value Master CNC VMCs: the F400VM (31" X axis, 22" Y axis and 20" Z axis) and F500VM (43" X axis, 22" Y axis and 20" Z axis). The machines are suitable for small- to medium-sized job shops but can also handle high-production environments, the company says.
The bed, column and saddle of the VMCs are designed using finite element analysis (FEA) and are composed of Meehanite cast iron. All axes are driven by high-precision, double-nut ballscrews connected directly to the servodrive motors without gears or belts to eliminate backlash, the company says. All three axes use linea- motion guideways for rapid high speed axis movement. The rapid traverse rates are 36 m/min. in the X and Y axes and 30 m/min. in the Z axis.
The machines can be configured with an 8,000-rpm spindle for deep cuts or with a 12,000-rpm spindle for high speed applications. The standard Big Plus spindle system (BBT #40) provides dual contact between the spindle face and the flange face of the toolholder. The spindle motor is 15 hp with spindle torque rated at 95/75 Nm.
The VMCs are equipped with 30-tool, side-mount swing-arm type toolchangers. This technology offers tool change times of 1.3 sec. tool-to-tool on the F400VM and 1.5 sec. tool-to-tool on the F500VM. The maximum tool OD is 76/150 mm on the F400VM and 90/150 mm on the F500VM. A shutter system separates the ATC and magazine during machining.
Other standard features include through-spindle coolant, a large Y axis (1,100 mm × 550 mm) and the Fanuc i-series CNC featuring a 10.4" color LCD monitor with Manual Guide I.
