The new CUT 1000 OilTech wire EDM was designed for micromachining and other precision applications. The machine uses wires as small as 0.02 mm diameter and SF technology to achieve surface finishes down to 0.05 microns Ra in continuous operation. By using oil as the dielectric, the CUT 1000 OilTech eliminates the effects of workpiece corrosion due to long periods of immersion. As a result, multiple workpieces can remain immersed in the dielectric for overnight or weekend machining needs. The oil also enables smaller distances between the wire and workpiece to produce smaller internal radii when compared to water-based EDM operations.
The company also offers the FO350 MS, a ram EDM unit that provides precision, speed and productivity for small die/mold applications. The machine uses MicroTEC discharge circuitry, which enables EDM power to be modulated offering the flexibility to maximize material removal while allowing a reduced electrode undersize of less than or equal to 0.002". This is said to enable higher machining outputs while maintaining the geometry of the electrodes due to a low wear rate.
