The ST-20SSY high speed turning center features a Y axis, C axis and live tooling to provide a four-axis solution for “done in one” machining of turned parts.
The turning center has a maximum cutting capacity of 10" × 20.5", with maximum swings of 31.75" over the front apron and 20.75" over the cross-slide. It provides 4" of Y-axis travel (±2" from the center line) for off-center milling, drilling and tapping. Also, the center is equipped with high-torque live tooling and a servodriven C axis for four-axis capability. The 24-station hybrid BOT/VDI turret indexes tools in 0.5 sec. for reduced cycle times.
Equipped with an A2-6 spindle nose, the turning center features a 3.0" spindle bore; a bar capacity of 2.0"; and an 8.3" hydraulic, three-jaw chuck. The machine’s 30-hp vector, dual-drive spindle spins to 5,000 rpm and provides 115 foot-pounds of torque at 1,380 rpm. On-the-fly wye-delta switching yields a constant-horsepower band for constant surface feed cuts, the company says. Rapids are 1,200 ipm on the Z axis, 945 ipm on the X axis and 709 ipm on the Y axis.
Additional equipment includes rigid tapping, spindle orientation, a 15" color LCD monitor and a USB port. Other available equipment includes a belt-type chip conveyor, programmable hydraulic tailstock, automatic tool probe, an automatic parts catcher, high-pressure coolant systems and more.
