Better Cutting Tool Production after Fire’s Destruction
A fire destroyed Taurus Tool and Engineering's facility, hindering improvement efforts. In its new facility, the company relies on ANCA tool grinding machines for standardized, streamlined production.
On-Machine Laser Measuring System Maintains Tool Grinding Accuracy
ANCA’s LaserPlus laser measuring system, an enhancement to the touch probe on the company’s MX and TX grinding machines, provides repeatable measurement to 0.0001" and automatic machine compensation while reducing scrap during production of precision cutting tools.
ANCA Expands Michigan Plant by Half
The grinding machine manufacturer serves its American, Mexican and Brazilian customers out of the facility.
Slideshow: Trends and Technology at IMTS 2016
The size and scope of a show like IMTS makes it impossible to cover everything of interest, but here's a taste of the technology and trends we were taking note of this year.
Tool Grinders Increase Accuracy with Shaft Linear Motors
ANCA’s FX Linear series of CNC tool and cutter grinders are designed to increase accuracy and reduce maintenance using ANCA-designed tubular shaft linear motors.
Trial by Fire
Founded in 1976, Taurus Tool & Engineering started as a multi-step cutting tool manufacturer, and always had a good reputation for quality tools. It started with two partners and a team of skilled employees, ultimately growing its Schaumburg, Illinois, shop to 17,500 square feet.
All Fired Up
After Taurus Tool and Engineering, a manufacturer of custom cutting tools, lost its production facility in a fire, it was able to rebuild the business on an entirely new basis.
Grinder Regrinds, Sharpens Tools
ANCA’s FX7 Linear tool and cutter grinder features a 19-kW wheel spindle to accommodate a range of tool types and geometries.
Tool Grinders Equipped with Tubular Shaft Linear Motors
ANCA’s FX Linear series of cutting tool grinders are said to provide higher grinding accuracy while reducing maintenance within a smaller footprint.
In-House Tool Grinding: the “Indirect” Machine Tool Investment
Though CNC tool grinders are used primarily by cutting tool manufacturers and regrinding services, several factors have made these machines increasingly attractive for in-house tool grinding by production facilities.
Techni-ANCA Partnership Strengthened
ANCA has increased its stake in the waterjet cutting machine supplier.
CNC Tool and Cutter Grinder for End Mill Production
Anca’s MX5 CNC tool and cutter grinder is designed for producing end mills in mixed batches.
Techni, ANCA Announce Partnership
ANCA Group (Wixom, Michigan), a supplier of CNC systems and grinding machines, has announced that it will take a 25-percent equity share in waterjet manufacturer Techni Waterjet (Lenexa, Kansas) during the next two years with options to develop a closer partnership in the future. According to both companies, the partnership is an obvious one given their long-standing relationship, which included the joint development of the core software for Techni’s Quantum electric servo pump (ESP) and PAC-60 bevel cutting head.
Automated CNC Tool Grinding System
The MX7 CNC tool grinding system was developed for high flexibility and quick change-over to accommodate smaller batch sizes and high volume capability for production houses, the company says.
A Streamlined Alternative for Automated Tool Manufacturing
This automated, single-machine system enables tool manufacturers to completely grind mixed batches of varying tool types and sizes unattended.
Last Glance at IMTS 2010
It would be impossible to cover all of the key exhibitors at IMTS 2010—even if every booth got merely a quick glance. However, the editors of MMS did get glimpses of some interesting technologies exhibited at the show...
CNC Tool and Cutter Grinder
The small-footprint FastGrind CNC tool and cutter grinder is designed for high-speed resharpening of tools ranging to 9.4" in diameter using custom iGrind software.
CNC Tool Grinding System
The MX7 can machine unattended with a variety of tools ranging to 5/8″ (16 mm) in diameter. Designed for rapid processing of batches of precision tools, the system offers a 10-second, automated wheel exchange and a 10-second workpiece change with its MLX integrated loader. Six standard HSK 50 wheel packs offer production flexibility and the potential for unattended productivity.
Software Provides The Edge For Toolgrinding
These days, software is increasingly providing the machining skills that once were the domain of experienced operators. This is especially true at cutter grinding shops where complex three-dimensional geometry, difficult materials, extreme tolerances and short lead times are typical.
